What do engineers do when they have to go to the bathroom when they are at the throttle of a train in motion? I know locomotives have toilets. Do they have the assistant take over? What about cabs where there is only one engineer on duty (such as on the Cascades--where there is only one engineer in the cab)?

If there is another engineer, they will take over. Otherwise they have to wait for a station stop or a red signal.

Most of the time the guys know they should pee before they start running, and they figure it out was they go along. Most of the time if you go at the beginning of the trip and you're working by yourself you'll be good the rest of the trip.

And let's all not forget the versatillity of an empty coke cup........ :D
