Amtrak Offers Discounts to New Orleans
Lower fares from Atlanta & Memphis to the "Big Easy"
WASHINGTON - Amtrak is offering special fares, available through spring 2006, making it easier to travel to and from the “Big Easy” on the Crescent and City of New Orleans trains.
Passengers making reservations at Amtrak.com or by calling 800-USA-RAIL can receive a 20 percent discount on travel south of Atlanta or Memphis by specifying discount V545.
The discount can be applied to coach and First class (sleeping car) travel, and children aged 2-15 travel at 50 percent off the discounted fare. Up to two children per fare-paying adult are eligible.
Amtrak was the first major transportation provider to restore most of its service to New Orleans, with the New York-New Orleans Crescent and the Chicago-New Orleans City of New Orleansreturning on Oct. 8.
“The City of New Orleans and the Crescent are up and running, and there is great capacity for Amtrak to be an excellent option for people traveling in hurricane-affected areas and beyond,” said Barbara Richardson, Amtrak Vice President of Marketing and Sales. “Our hope is that volunteers, relief workers and those returning to assess the damage or rebuild their lives will take advantage of our services.”
