Being in Florida, Iread that Amtrak closed the train service between Philly to NYC due to overwired head problems and many tree falls.

This seems getting on people's nerves? The Silver Star & Meteor was lucky left this morning that was sunny before storm came ... Hmmm

I just read a NYTtimes post on facebook that NJT suspended service today due to flooded tracks between NJ and NYC. I wouldn't be surprised if that is also affecting some amtrak trains as well. Apparently there are winds between 60 - 70 mph in that area.

All service is suspended NYP-PHL. Here is the alert from Amtrak:

Northeast Corridor Service Between New York and Phliadelphia Suspended By Overhead Wire Problems Near West of New York City
March 13, 2010

8:30 p.m. EST

All Amtrak service, including Acela Express and Northeast Regional service, is currently suspended between New York City and Philadelphia, PA due to overhead wire problems near West of New York City. Amtrak passengers should expect extensive delays in each direction on Northeast Corridor service between New York City and Philadelphia, PA until further notice. An update will be given when normal service resumes.

Service between Boston and New York is not affected at this time. Amtrak regrets any inconvenience. This information is correct as of the above time and date. Information is subject to change as conditions warrant. Passengers are encouraged to call 800-USA-RAIL or visit Amtrak.com for schedule information and train status updates.
Although the release is stamped 8:30pm, service was stopped around 6pm.

The actual overhead wire problem just west of New York was that a high tension transmission line came down atop the catenary shorting out everything. Service was restored around midnight.
Must have produced an interesting shower of sparks.

Aloha
