The Senate recently passed its version of the Passenger Rail Investment and Improvement Act, which would authorize $14.4 billion for Amtrak over the next five years.

WOW...Bush sign the freakin bill.
 
If he doesn't he'll look obstinate. I think both sides passed with veto-proof margins.

This article mentions funding for "the development of high-speed rail between Washington D.C., and New York and 10 other high-speed corridors around the country." After looking through the text of H.R. 6003 here, I don't see any mention of 10 specific projects - only that federal funding for high-speed rail would be available, & that the various committees involved would evaluate all applicants (but it does mention the necessity of a new Southeast Corridor study). I wonder which of the many proposed projects- for example, the Ohio Hub- have a realistic chance of meeting all the criteria (assuming the bill passes).
