Theres still many around, go to pretty much any metropolitan area and you can see them on commuter servies: Chicago, Boston, etc. Ex Amtrak F40PHs can also be found in different places serving numerous different railroads for both freight and passenger services.

VIA rail in canada still has many F40s in long distance service.

They use locomotives very similar to Amtraks GP40PHs
NJ Transit has both the GP40PH/FH-2's as well as F40PH-2-CAT's. Your best chance of seeing the F40's would be either the Raritan Valley Line or Atlantic City Rail Line.

Which new paint scheme? The newest one the F40PHs are in is probably the westcoast Surfliner scheme, and there are only a very few of them, probably less then five. There were also around 10 painted into Phase IV.

F-40's did run on AOE for a number of years. With the arrival of the Genesis engines Amtrak switched AOE to the Genesis to put their best foot forward, even before F-40's were pulled from service.

Even in the latter years, AOE trains occasionally ran with F40PHs but like Battalion said, they usually used Genesis units because they were classy and more streamlined then the F40PHs. Alot of times P40s would be used.

They are also found on Hiawatha trains, I believe, in the mid-west. Last I knew a few units were doing some switchinf in Sanford and Jacksonville, but B-51 would know more about that.

506 is switchin in Sanford, 508 (as of last report) in JAX, and 519 in Indianapolis.

That's correct Alan. At any given time two are in trainsets the other is held in Portland for PM (Preventative maintenence) or other service. The Cabbages for them are 90213, 90214, and 90220, all in Phase IV.

Portland does not do PM or any moderate maintenance, only quick repairs, if that. Everything is sent to South Hampton Street on the southside of Boston for PM. There is usually a spare locomotive and a couple of Amfleets for back up.

Portland does must however have the ability to do 1000 mile inspections and that sort of thing. Every major terminal (even some small ones like Portland) must be able to do quick repairs and 1000 mile inspections, as it would be too much of a pain to send it down to South Hampton for those small things.
