Just received this email from Amtrak:
It is my pleasure to be able to pass along some good news. On Monday, July 11, 2005, Acela Express will begin resuming service.
Service will return gradually, as each of the trainsets is outfitted with newly manufactured brake rotors. As the trains become available, they will replace the Metroliners currently in service. As much as possible, the first Acela Express trains will operate in the high demand morning and afternoon time slots. For example, the first trains are departing at the following times and from the listed locations:
Washington to New York
Acela # Departure
2102 7:00 am
2120 4:00 pm
New York to Washington
Acela # Departure
2107 7:00 am
2123 3:00 pm
During the transition, there will be a series of schedule changes, which will be posted on Amtrak.com and announced to the media. However, as the trains become available, we will return them as quickly as possible, which is why you may be pleasantly surprised to see an Acela Express trainset waiting for you when you purchase a Metroliner ticket. Of course, we will honor your Metroliner tickets for the ride on the Acela Express.
