#3 leaving Chicago 3/6

I just arrived home to Flagstaff over two and a half hours late- a series of delays after La Junta- speed restriction due to high winds, signal problem with meeting #4, and 2 delays waiting for New Mexico Rail Runner to pass. Not a big deal and my trip was pretty satisfactory.

But my friend left Chicago on the 3 after me and it shows in service disruption and hasn't made it to Kansas City. I called his phone and left a message, but he is undoubtedly sleeping. I heard there were tornado warnings in Illinois. Anybody have info? Thanks.

Aha! Just occurred to me to look up Trainorders. It seems a tornado derailed a freight train around LaPlata and Amtrak was sent on a detour. Hope nobody was hurt.

The whole midwest seems to be ugly today - the trains in black in the picture below are 3+ hours late, the ones in red are at least an hour late. Not good!
