Well Folks,

2(26) hit a Rice Truck in the Lafayette, LA area, it was held for 8 Hours they had to set out 42 and bring a new crew in due to the Engineers having to go to the Hopstial, 11 is the unit now and should apporach Lafayette soon.

I was on a train the day before thru that area and almost hit a damn rice truck right around where Amtrak hit it.

This accident split the 18 wheeler right in half from what i have heard the engineers have minor injuries

Ok here it is on the BNSF line from Iowa Jct to Avondale LA on the west side of Lafayette you will hit rice trucks.

On the east side of Lafayette you will hit cane trucks both of these are like hitting a concrete wall we have been very lucky that no train crew on Amtrak UP or BNSF has been killed yet.

It is only a matter of time with all the close calls on this line.

From Lafayette to Avondale we have around 266 grade crossings for a run that is 130 miles.

Two Amtrak engineers are being treated at the Jennings American Legion Hospital following a train wreck in Mermentau shortly after 1 p.m. Friday.

According to Acadia Parish Sheriff Wayne Melancon, an 18-wheeler owned by Bubba Morgan Trucking was carrying rice hull compost and was being driven by 61-year-old John Villejoin of Crowley.

Melancon stated that there were no leak or loss of fluids from the accident and that injury to the two engineers was minor and non-life threatening.

Villejoin has been charged with failure to yield.

Assisting the Acadia Parish Sheriff's Office was Louisiana State Police and Mermentau Fire Department. Investigators and officials with Amyrak and Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad were also on the scene.

The investigation is continuing.
