I've never gotten a copy of a Heritage floorplan in front of me, but I've been left wondering: One of the most common floorplans in the 50s was the 10-6 (10 roomettes, 6 bedrooms). The Viewliners have 14* roomette slots and 3 bedrooms. In general, I tend to think of a bedroom as taking up the width of two roomettes and the length of one, so...10-6 basically translates into 11 "slots" for either one bedroom or two roomettes. 14-3 translates into 10 slots. Where did one of them go? My best guess is "into the bedroom showers", but that's just a guess.

*I know...one is the attendant's roomette and one is the shower, offering 12 roomettes.

Doesn't the ADA compliant bedroom in effect take up space that could be used for 2 bedrooms?

The Viewliner bedroom is larger than a Bedroom of older days. They are not directly comparable. The Viewliner bedroom size is more equivalent to a Compartment.

Also, as far that goes, the roomettes are also a bit longer than the traditional roomette, which only slept one and only had one chair.

I know im dreaming but ive always wished for the return of "budget" rooms. I like the sections on VIA Rail (actually liked it better than roomette both superliner and viewliner, the bed was more comfortable and the upper berth had more than enough head room). If Amtrak offered a "budget" room (no meals included would probably be a must) it would be my preferred accommodation for overnight trips. Only dreams I guess

Roughly speaking .... 11 modules of about 7' each (= 77') + the balance for the vestibule and miscellaneous.

6 modules of 2 Roomettes. 1 module of 1 Roomette and Shower (this one will be Shower and 2 toilets in the new Viewliners), 2 modules of bedroom, 1 module of H room and 1 module of H room toilet + storage and control cabinets.
