    NorthEast corridor Why Faster Southbound?

Haha I noticed that too. If we abbreviate Providence at all (which is rare for us Rhode Islanders in the first place), we would call it "Prov". P-Town is ALWAYS used for Provincetown.

Pretty neat activity on the NEC (Rhode Island section)

Hey guys it has been a while since I have posted and felt it would be neat to share something that occurred today as I was walking my dog at the Wickford Junction train station. When I got to the station, it was about 5 minutes before MBCR (Massachusetts Bay Commuter Rail) train #809 was set to...

    Help me understand railway signals

Well these are the rules as they pertain to Amtrak on the NEC. I will be learning this stuff anyway if I do get hired, so I think it would be beneficial to have some prior knowledge. I understand that train simulator is a game, but it has accurate representations of the signals on the NEC that...

    Help me understand railway signals

I plan on applying for a job with Amtrak as an engineer in a couple years (after I get a bachelor's degree) and am beginning to teach myself the NORAC rules (10th edition). I am currently teaching myself about signaling and reinforcing what I am learning with scenarios in Train Simulator 2013...

When will the Acela be doing its 165mph test in Kingston?

Yeah, that first set was conducted in New Jersey. Amtrak said that sometime this week (they failed to specify exactly when), the Acela will be continuing tests in Rhode Island and Massachusetts.

When will the Acela be doing its 165mph test in Kingston?

So as far as you know, the test has already been completed? That doesn't make sense. BTW, I heard a rumor that it would be in October.

When will the Acela be doing its 165mph test in Kingston?

Ever since Tuesday morning of last week, I have seen Amtrak employees at Kingston Station. They were using some equipment to inspect the tracks. I can only guess that they are doing these inspections to prepare for the Acela's 165mph test there. With that aside, has it been said when the test...

Train 14 (the Coast Starlight ) on 8/04/12 arrived Seattle 4 hours 34

In that case, I would attribute that to a breakdown.

Train 14 (the Coast Starlight ) on 8/04/12 arrived Seattle 4 hours 34

I cannot give you a definitive answer, but the usual case for such a delay is a combination of... 1. Engine breaking down 2. Heat slows 3. Delays of loading/unloading passengers at stations (can add up if the train stops frequently) 4 Miscellaneous technical issues I am sure you will find...

    Why would this occur?

TBH, I have never been to OSB...so I don't know how the traffic patterns are there. I have seen some videos of OSB and I noticed how similar in design the overpasses are! It is nice to know that the design similarities aren't just coincidence.

    Why would this occur?

Refer to the video embedded below, then read the rest of this post. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6WRaI5Cb0P8 A few minutes before this, Acela 2173 used the high-speed switch to transfer from track 1 to track 2. Then, Acela 2164 (this train) uses a high-speed switch to transfer from track 2...

Acela lack of radial trucks / new car keep the 4 in. ?

All the more reason why Amtrak needs its own dedicated HSR line through CT separate from MNRR.

    reporting from #51

People in general are ignorant and have no respect for the feelings of others. The situation you were put into was not in the least bit humorous. People just need to mind their own business and quit bullying others (especially when they have no clue what the hell is going on anyway).

Lots of excitement in Kingston today!

First off, NER 174 broke down after leaving Trenton, NJ, putting it about two hours behind schedule. Passengers had to be transferred to NJ Transit and then transferred back to an Amtrak train to continue their journey north. Instead of arriving at Kingston at 5:12, it got there at 7:00. So...

Acela 2164...excessively early the past couple days.

This makes sense. I live right near where they are doing lots of trackwork...I hear them on the scanner all the time recently. This is in Davisville...a section of North Kingstown, Rhode Island.

Acela 2164...excessively early the past couple days.

Haha, I am not complaining, I am just shocked. It is extremely uncommon/non-existent...so why is it becoming so common as of late?
