    Scanning tickets at NYP

Even 66/67 gets it. Four times through on the 66/67 across multiple years, four times I had the ticket checked by the crew at NYP, four times shaken awake by the crew with warnings over the PA that we must show our tickets again

Bush Budget to Scrap Subsidy for Amtrak-Sources

Why am I not surprised people are jumping to conclusions with very little information out there based on a report from a news agency known for it's anti-Bush garbage... If there was any push behind this it would have started in the only place where it could have ANY and I mean ANY effect on...

Middle of the night connection in NYC

Alan is on the money regarding the trains, take the LIRR there. Easiest connection for you and you don't have to deal with the late night trains nor the people who ride them. I prefered the LIRR concourse at Penn Station over the Amtrak concourse in terms of safety, more people there at 2am and...

    Los Angeles Metrolink Crash

Sets things in perspective of how a small vehicle in relation to locomotive and commuter trains can cause such havoc... Science run amok there, worst fears realized for many...

    Metropolitan Lounge South Station

I asked in South Station today, it's not allowed since 448 and 449 are equivellant to every other non-Acela train out of South Station. You may get lucky and be allowed to use the facility if there is a friendly employee manning the entrance though...

    Wouldn't you know?

You could look on the bright side: the percentages are now in your favor, there probably won't be a deadly accident for a few years at least...

    One night in Boston

Coming in in the morning the 411 also operates over that stretch so headways will be about 20 minutes or less, weather permitting. Also if riding on a weekend you also have the possibility of the 450, 455, and 426 which travel past the place you are staying at. Either Forest Hills or Oak Grove...

Surprised nobody is talking about the NEC...

I doubt much will be moving in and out of Boston, probably only going with the barest of the crews and pushing time limits for those crews to the maximum allowance here...Tuesday will be the earliest I think that things can have someresemblance to being normal for Amtrak around Boston.

Surprised nobody is talking about the NEC...

Update from Boston: state of emergency declared by Gov. Romney. Mass. National Guard is mobilized and all businesses are ordered closed for the night and possibly tomorrow. The only thing moving are the trains of the MBTA and Amtrak... If things don't improve overnight(and I doubt they will)...

Surprised nobody is talking about the NEC...

Weekend commuter rail schedules, two feet of snow expected in Boston and the heaviest bands going directly over the NEC(seriously!), and on top of that a somewhat late start(didn't fall until after 4pm locally) it's going to be an extremely tough morning for Amtrak north of New York City...With...

    Garfield movie

There would be if Amtrak didn't give the OK for the use of the name, but creating a new name out of the blue covers Amtrak and the movie from any association with a real train. My main point was about the train being a straight train to New York, not something real- at least not in quite a long...

    Garfield movie

I think what gives me the biggest laugh throughout the scene is that the train is the "New Amsterdam Limited" that is heading to New York- From Los Angelas :D Must be someone's idea of a joke or there wasn't any investigation into actual routes

    Garfield movie

I thought the Dash-8s were the highlight, they aren't used much compared to other locomotives so it's great to see them as the locomoives shown :)

    Mele Kalikimaka

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to everyone! Hope everyones' days went and will go well :) And Anthony- you will love it here in Beantown, especially the railfan part of you(if you can handle the overload :D

    Station Names

Boston's South Station might be hot on the tails of Portland Union Station, I think it opened not too long after that one and has been a union staton for the entire length of it's lifetime. And to throw a wrench on the "terminal" and "union station" issue here, Boston's two major stations are...

Long day for the Vermonter bug

My eyes must have been deceiving me or a photo was mislabelled as a Vermonter instead of a shuttle. Proves me wrong... Correct me if I am wrong but for the two engines, is it possible to control from front engine while running the rear engine in push mode? If they can then I don't blame Amtrak...

Long day for the Vermonter bug

Unles I am mistaken that's a cab car behind the AEM7 leading the Vermonter. Could it be possible it's only a seasonal use of the cabs rather than a full time use of the P40s and P42s?

Long day for the Vermonter bug

The former Central Vermont/current New England Central Railroad line between Palmer and White River Junction has to be used in lieu of the former Boston and Maine rail line between White River Junction and Springfield. Access requires the train to run backwards between Palmer and St. Albans...

    Slumbercoaches

Along the lines of what you mean? Caption for that photo: Some more slumbercoaches, probably most of the ones that made it into Amtrak's hands.

    Congressional bickering clouds Amtrak's future

Think you can do better? Run for Congress! Otherwise, your attacks on their characters are uncalledfor
