    New AGR policy on routing?

Last night I called AGR to modify a rewards trip. The choices shown on Arrow for Naperville, IL (NPV - outside of Chicago) to Tacoma (TAC) are: NPV-CHI-PDX-TAC EB – Cascade. NPV-CHI-SAC-TAC CZ - CS NPV-LAX-TAC SWC - CS I opted for the LAX option. The agent said I couldn’t...

    Nebraska Zephyr Excursion

Opportunity to ride one of the oldies: The Illinois Railway Museum, in cooperation with Amtrak and BNSF Railway, will operate the Nebraska Zephyr, powered by CB&Q 9911A "Silver Pilot", on an excursion between Chicago and Quincy, Illinois on September 22nd and 23rd.   Schedule and ticket info

    Amtrak's New Policies

I noticed recently on AU there seems to be confusion about Amtrak's new policies regarding ticket cancellation and baggage rules, partly due to some of the clerk's are not aware of the new rules.   Not sure if it has been covered in here but while canceling a reward ticket today I asked the...

    Sleeper Pricing

I'll never understand the logic of how Amtrak determines sleeper pricing. In one case in the past traveling MSP - SEA, I got a FBR way cheaper than a Roomette. Even the SCA was amazed.   If you are traveling on a Roomette budget, but would really like a BR, I stumbled on to this little gem if...

Man stripped at PDX's TSA and arrested

Modern Day Patriot 1 - TSA Kabukibots 0   Modern day Patrick Henry: Give me liberty or give me nudity!! Remember this incident @ PDX during April 2012 when a frequent flyer got fed up being a good stupid sheep of the herd and stripped to protest he wasn't carrying explosives (likely to...

    TSA @ Chicago Union Station - July 5, 2012

An unhappy passenger at CUS shot some footage of what appears to be a TSA Kabuki Theater Security VIPR team setting up a random checkpoint for departing AMTRAK passengers. IIRC, the Amtrak Police chief threw the bums out in the past for this. But it seems he has retired and the new chief...

    SWC + CS (CHI-LAX-TAC)

After joining friends to attend RailFest2011 at Rock Island, IL, I returned home using 30k AGR points for a BR on the SWC and a FBR on the CS. The last time I used the Metro Lounge at CUS was a year ago on another SWC-CS trip. This time it made me wonder if Amtrak has become a cheapskate. Last...

    WIFI on THE CS

Just left LA heading for PDX. I'm in the PC forgetting Amtrak was going to fire up WIFI. Nice touch!   I'm on a KCY-LAX-PDX-CBS (bedroom) loophole trip I set up just before they clamped down on reward points needed.   Despite this being the busy season for Amtrak, the SWC'S KCY-LAX was...

According to Wiki it is merely the third longest continuous service in the world. The first two are also in the region but involve travel into China. One of my travel mates sent...
