Least we not forget that the Borealis will be a commuter train of sorts - transportation point to point Whereas the Empire Builder is a long distance and scenic mode of travel with sleeping/dining accommodations Night and day - day and night a whole nother type of travel between the two trains...

St. Paul, Milwaukee, Chicago (TCMC) second daily service

In my not so humble opinion - - - Keep it simple - there is no reason to operate the Borealis trains with a push pull split and separate cars at Milwaukee - nothing like screwing with the basic planned train and achieving more delays and other mechanical snafu meshing cars and locomotives* (I...

It could also be deadheaded attached to the EB #7 the night before. Time being of essence I don't think the consist will be operated as a revenue trip - although some of us wouldn't mind riding a deadheading ferry trip.

The MSP Lounge is very spartan to say the least. 3 or 4 sleeper passengers and it is at its limits. A minute fraction of the space of the CUS Lounge No restroom facility within the lounge. Train announcements may not be heard. With City events may make it difficult to use the Lounge. On a plus...

At SPUD there are two tracks for two trains to be serviced simultaneously. In the unlikely event of the EB 7 & 8 are both delayed at MSP - there is a dead end track that the Borealis could use extending to the Union Depot Rail View and Picnic area - Reference Google map...

At its origin/destination (Chicago-St Paul) there is no need for the push pull consist. There is plenty of WYE turn around space to work with and time to turn the train for the next day service. No need for adding or reduction of cars causing delay in scheduling. Hope Amtrak keeps this simple !

Don't discount the boarding traffic at Milwaukee and other Empire Builder stops destined for MSP. Yes there will be off days when the Borealis will not be anywhere near capacity. And look around the corner - the airlines are cutting reducing service to small Wisconsin cities - the train fares...

Reversing seats can be done easily - case in point the Alaska RR Gold Star bi-level cars. While the Alaska RR operation (ANC-FAI) does not need to reverse its consists - sometimes seating for 4 is great for a family or a small group - a simple lever at the seat bottom when stepped on can...

OK - the WYE is visible as a wye but something about the tracks (roadbed) leaves much to be desired. A few years ago I was on a NCL cruise ship and observed the Ocean at the Halifax station with its Park type tail car at the station door +/- 20 cars to the locomotives almost out of sight. At...

I am not familiar with that Canal (Concourse) entrance which appears to be in an interior corridor. The one I was referencing has windows to Jackson St and the entrance from same is signed closed to be use only as an emergency exit. The Lounge room on the 2nd floor has huge Pennsy railroad...
