Another #8 is performing badly this morning, now down 5 1/2 hours and once again will miss all connections in CHI.
A good part of that was due, for unknown reasons, to #8 leaving Spokane 2+ hours late after both halves arrived early.Another #8 is performing badly this morning, now down 5 1/2 hours and once again will miss all connections in CHI.
Looks like the 8 is headed east at between Fargo and Detroit Lakes with one of BNSF's new Tier 4 locomotives (3926) in the lead.
Because sticking your head in the sand and hoping a problem will go away is easier than taking corrective action. And the reason Amtrak stubbornly clung to the "old" schedule instead of adopting last years earlier departures out of PDX and SEA that helped is???
There's less and less single track on the Hi-line. There's a few places that will not be double tracked anytime soon - the Stevens Pass and Flathead tunnels, Marias Pass, etc. With a single track main and lots of traffic and track work t can be hard just to get the freights out of the way of Amtrak... Gotta put them in sidings hundreds of miles in advance, easy for one delay to cascade.
I am less sympathetic to delays on double track (or more) lines.
