What's your fave part of a train ride

For me, I'm a sucker for the anticipation. Say what you will about NYP, but my favorite parts of the train ride are detraining from my NJ Transit train at NYP and heading upstairs for "the main event", and from the Amtrak concourse, descending on the escalator and getting that first glimpse of...

Why no business class on commuter rail?

I recall reading in the Star Ledger within the past year that the Jersey Shore Commuters Club is still going strong. Also, the Wikipedia entry for the North Jersey Coast Line also has some info on them.

    MBTA to Braintree

Hi, My company is sending me to Boston around Sept. 20 or so, and due to the ridiculous hotel prices in Boston I have to stay in the suburbs -- Braintree MA to be exact. I assumed I would be taking the red line to and from Braintree (I'll be at the Hynes Center), but I'm wondering if anyone...

    Airlines

Hi Saxman, Good to know there's a pilot here. I'm attempting to fly this week for the first time since I was a child (I'm in my late 30s now), and to say I'm nervous is quite an understatement. All sorts of thoughts are going through my mind, and missing a meeting is the least of them! There's...

    Chicago CTA Blue Line

I was at the Stephens Center last week with frequent trips on the Blue Line from Rosemont/Cumberland to/from Clinton (CUS) plus entertainment in the city. Between the poster about the LSL to this about the Blue Line, they echo my trip entirely. That Blue Line is miserable. Going inbound I was...

49 east and westbound on time

I took my first LSL trip in 2 years on June 10 as well. Departed NYP 30 mins late and arrived in CHI just 3 mins late. Returned to NYP last night just 30 mins late, and the crews were excellent, particularly on 49. Also nice to see the actual lakeshores in daylight, too. What a difference! :)

    baggage

Hi everyone, Usually when I take Amtrak, I keep my luggage with me in the overhead rack in coach so I don't miss my commuter train while waiting for my checked bags. Anyway, due to logistical reasons I'd like to check my bags on an upcoming LSL trip. Has anyone had their locks cut off via...

    NEW YORK HOTELS

As for Parsippany/Fairfield/Mountain Lakes, New Jersey Transit's Montclair-Boonton Line doesn't offer weekend service, and is kind of limited to peak rush-hour times. Also, you would have to make a transfer. Consider staying near New Jersey's Morris-Essex line. The upside is weekend train...

    Camden, NJ area

Thanks for the help, Alan. I didn't think about the Walter Rand option, so that gives me something to think about. Guess I'll train on down to Philly in the next couple of weeks and give it a try. :D

    car rental in Atlanta?

Thanks for the advice, everyone. I'm still undecided, but if the Hertz operation is as Battalion describes it, that would be fine. :)

    car rental in Atlanta?

I'm heading to ATL next month, and I noticed there's a Hertz car rental agency listed in the station. I remember that place being quite small, or is there some kind of shuttle to a real Hertz rental location? Anyone use this? And if there is a shuttle to another Hertz location, is it open on...

    commuter rail in Nashville?

[The Music City Star commuter rail project between Lebanon and Nashville got an important endorsement from the state yesterday that should almost ensure that the $39.7 million leg is built.] The Tennessean

    stretch cords

Hi everyone, I wouldn't try doing this on a plane, but I used to use stretch cords (which have metal hooks) to tie my briefcase to the handle of my luggage so I would only have to tote around one item while taking NJT to NYP. On Tuesday I'll be taking the 3Rs, and I've got a lot to carry this...
