Just did a round trip to FLA on Auto train. Noticed that they were playing XM satellite radio over the PA system. Anybody hear anything about this like when did this start, and do they plan on rolling it out on other routes? It would be nice if they offered more than 1 radio channel on different PA channels though.

XM satellite radio on the Auto Train?

Let’s just hope, given today’s news about David Gunn being removed, that the Auto Train as well as Amtrak survives. ;)

By the way Orez, can you provide a description/review of your trip aboard the AT?

Thanks.

Not sure if AT has installed a satallite radio system. However, it may have been possibly employees hooking their radio into the PA system. Dining car crews are notorious about entertaining themselves with radios and hooking them up to the local setting for the car. It may have been just a radio playing in the diner with the PA on locked on speaker mode and the music was just taking its way through the entire train. I've seen both of these things happen before on regular occassions by fellow crew members. :D

That's so cool. However, this is just one more point to prove the popular belief that Auto Train will most likely be immune to the collapse of Amtrak's long distance train network. It's about the only positive thing I've seen or heard in months about Amtrak service emenities on board any train.

Just hope that no one from XM reads these forums or rides the AutoTrain. If XM is being played on the Autotrain it is being done without being licensed by XM and Amtrak could be held liable for a big-time fine for copyright infringement. The only transportation company in the US licensed to offer XM is AirTran.
