WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The bi-partisan leadership of the House

Transportation & Infrastructure Committee and its Railroad

Subcommittee has introduced legislation to retain a national

intercity rail passenger network and fund Amtrak at the $2 billion

level sought by Amtrak supporters.

The UTU, which builds close relationsips with Republicans as well as

Democrats, worked with each of these lawmakers in crafting the bill

designed to save Amtrak.

"Two months ago, the Bush Administration submitted a new budget to

destroy our national rail passenger network and Amtrak," said UTU

International President Paul Thompson.

This is good news! I've written to my 2 Senators & the President of the U.S. regarding my feeling about Amtrak.

Let's hope it makes its way through Congress

This looks good, although i wouldn't get my hopes up, Amtrak probaly will make it, but this bill seems like it would make too muchsense to make it through this congress.

I have called my 2 senators, Allen® and Warner® both from VA, asking them to vote against the Senate bill S. 1501 or the Passenger Rail Investment Reform act, which was proposed by the Bush administration and entered into the Senate by McCain from AZ. THis bill would essentially bankrupt the NRPC, (dont be fooled by its name, key word is REFORM).

Let's hope the senate can get something like this passed, maybe Hutchinson(TX) could do the honors.

The Bill's # is H.R. 1630 and a bill giving HSR 60 Billion is number HR 1631.

Call those representatives now!!!!
