Union Pacific Leader on Amtrak #6(18)

The eastbound California Zephyr that left Emeryville on the 18th is currently running six and a half hours late with a Union Pacific freight engine and one P42 pulling it along. A look at Amtrak Status Maps shows this #6 spent about two hours and twenty minutes at Grand Junction, Colorado. It might have picked up the UP unit there.

Also, the private dome car Sierra Hotel is on the end of this train.

#6(8/18) arrived at CH 6 hours and 18 minutes late. Broke a recent streak of #6 getting into CHI closer to schedule with only 1 really late arrival for 6(8/12) at 2:46 late. Saw on to that #90(8/20)'s engine crapped out south of Fayettesville and passengers ended getting bused north of there. Two LD trains suffering long delays due to locomotives breaking down on back to back days. Not a good sign.

Anyway, here are the CZ recent arrivals to CHI, indicating that the summer of constantly getting into CHI 2,3,4,5 hours late may be over.

I was on #6 that arrived in Chicago today. We were just under an hour late (about 50-55 minutes), most of which came from a sit-and-wait west of Granby that we were never quite able to make up. I wondered what happened to #6 the day ahead of us that made it so late, and I was hoping it wasn't something that might slow us down...so I guess I'm kind of glad it was only an engine issue and not a rock slide or something!
