Traveling in coach

Not directly related to the CZ portion of the trip, but traveling from Indianapolis to Chicago and then from Chicago to San Francisco on the cz and curious in Indianapolis to Chicago portion since it is just coach, will we have someplace to put our suitcases?

Amtrak coaches have overhead luggage racks (similar to, but much larger than, airplane overhead racks) and most if not all long distance coaches have a luggage area and/or rack near the doors.
