SWC #4 (Fullerton to Fort Madison)

I just got done with a trip on the SWC #4 from Fullerton, CA to Fort Madison, IA. It was my first long train trip since an Empire Builder trip over 10 years ago. I was somewhat disappointed in the downgrades.

I was on car 430 and our SCA was less than stellar (to the point of not receiving a tip). Bobby in the Dining Car was also painful.

The food was okay, but like other posters I was disappointed by the paper tableclothes and plastic dishes.

The scenery was beautiful and the higher speeds on the SWC were nice. I'd be interested to hear what others have experienced recently.

Please see my recent reports on the SWC in May and June. Usually the service is very good, but my last SCA, Dorothy, resulted in me making an on board complaint.
