From Milwaukee, WI Journal-Sentinel, 6/10/05:

Critics of rail who like to argue that people around here just don't like to ride trains should consider what's happening with Amtrak's Milwaukee-to-Chicago Hiawatha route. It's teeming with people and breaking ridership records in the process. Its trains lead the nation in punctuality.
Entire editorial is here.

I ride this train each year when i visit my Grand mother in MKE when i come out from VA. It's also an unreserved train which means as many people that can possibly fit on the train can buy a ticket. And 2 years ago it was just that, people were standing and sitting in the isles. If they could increase the speed to 90mph instead of 79 in some areas they could really capitalize in this market.

Part of the reason the Hiawatha's lead in punctuality is an all double track route (at minimum), the shortest route of all Amtrak trains (86 miles), and two carriers who work well with Amtrak (Metra and CP).
