I forgot to mention seeing the new Reno trench in my CZ trip report and I haven't heard mention of it here before, so for those who don't know, Reno is building a trench through the city to elimate all the grade crossings in town. I think it was something like 2 miles long and would be double tracked allowing trains to pass through at 60mph. It sounds like a good deal. Less polution, less accidents, less noise, allow emergency services to get to places quick. The only bad thing I can think of is that your view of Reno from the CZ will be poor at best. The question I have is how will they deal with heavy snowfall in such a long trench?
