I forgot to mention seeing the new Reno trench in my CZ trip report and I haven't heard mention of it here before, so for those who don't know, Reno is building a trench through the city to elimate all the grade crossings in town. I think it was something like 2 miles long and would be double tracked allowing trains to pass through at 60mph. It sounds like a good deal. Less polution, less accidents, less noise, allow emergency services to get to places quick. The only bad thing I can think of is that your view of Reno from the CZ will be poor at best. The question I have is how will they deal with heavy snowfall in such a long trench?

Our own JC Collins presently lives in Reno while attending college there.

He could give us the best report of what is going on there.

From what I have seen, the project won't be completed until 2006.

The museum gentlemen that narated the tour through the sierra's said that it was ahead of the 2006 scheduled opening and is looking at a possible fall opening. To go that fast, they must get a big early completion bonus.
