It is official - service is arriving one timetable later than originally planned but it will quietly (or so it seems) be starting up this Sunday, October 31. Amtrak California Thruway service will once again be available to Monterey, this time via the San Joaquins at Merced instead of the Capitols at San Jose.

The service will operate twice daily in each direction and availability has been entered into the amtrak.com reservations system. Deluxe, express motorcoaches will make stops in Los Banos, Hollister, San Juan Bautista, and Salinas enroute from Merced to Monterey.

SCHEDULES TO MONTEREY:

The first daily thruway will depart Merced at 10:35a, allowing a transfer for northbound passengers arriving into Merced on train 701 (10:08a) and southbound passengers arriving into Merced on train 712 (10:31a).

The second daily thruway will depart Merced at 6:50p, allowing a transfer for northbound passengers arriving into Merced on train 717 (6:49p) and southbound passengers arriving into Merced on train 704 (6:31p).

SCHEDULES TO MERCED:

The first daily thruway will arrive Merced at 9:50a, allowing passengers to transfer to northbound train 701 (10:08a) or southbound train 712 (10:31a).

The second daily thruway will arrive Merced at 6:15p, allowing passengers to transfer to northbound train 717 (6:49p) or southbound train 704 (6:31p).
