"Republicans are maintaining that it would not force the closure of routes and that local or state governments could choose to subsidize the routes.
U.S. Rep. Marilyn Musgrave said that the cuts could be beneficial to Fort Morgan.
"Amtrak's current structure is not very successful, they are losing money and should do more to use taxpayer subsidies efficiently," she said in a statement to The Times. "The company should consider reforming its business model, then rural communities like Fort Morgan may actually benefit."
