Quick question...we're taking the full CZ from Chicago to Emeryville in mid May (14th). Just curious if this would be anticipated to be a relatively full train, or is it considered before the summer crowd? With it being a such a beautiful route, I wasn't sure if it traveled full most of the time. Also, what are the chances of seeing residual snow-capped mountains? Thanks...you all are such a great source of train knowledge!

It'll be full through the ski areas in the Rockies at least. Probably not full on the whole route (Reno to Salt Lake tends to be less full).

Mid May you should see snow capped mountains in the distance to the west (the Continental Divide) as you approach Denver.

Mountains over 10,000 feet or so in the Rockies usually have snow on them year round.

The Moffat Tunnel east portal is at 9200 feet.

For the Sierras it will depend on how much snow they get this winter.

Train unlikely to be crowded in mid-May, possible exceptions of Denver-Glenwood Springs and Reno-Sacramento
