From Evan Stair, Executive Director of PassengerRail OK:
RARE MILEAGE COLLECTORS
There is a breed of railfan who is rarely seen in public. They are a
secret society. They seize every opportunity to ride trains over rails
that have not seen a passneger train in decades or have always been
considered freight only. I am now expecting full Guthrie trains, despite the lack of hotel/motel rooms in Guthrie and lack of marketing. This should REALLY be interesting. The news is spreading like WILDFIRE.
RARE MILEAGE GUT-OKC
The Mileage Collectors have been informed of the OKC to Guthrie Run
(Thanks to that special person... You know who you are...). Because of
this, I suspect that we will be seeing full Guthrie trains.
PassengerRailOk.org and its members are proud to have played a part in the persistant campaign to push the Governor's office and the Legislature that finally made this trip happen despite incredible
bureaucratic resistance. You know the story dating back to 2002. You
know of our Depot Open House events held in Gordon Neff's Old Santa Fe Depot.
HISTORY OF THE GUT-OKC ROUTE
The last regularly scheduled passenger train to plod over the Oklahoma
City to Guthrie rails was the LONE STAR. It last ran in October of 1979 and was proceeded by the Santa Fe's TEXAS CHIEF. Here we go folks, riding long dormant passenger rails! It is a new beginning that will hopefully see another section of this grand old route restored in short order. I encourage everyone to take every opportunity to ride these special trips. SHOW THE LEGISLATURE THAT YOU WANT GUTHRIE AS A PERMANENT STOP!
SPECIAL THANKS TO MY FRIENDS
We hopefully will find that the floodgates are now wide open and the
channel leads all the way to Kansas City. I would like to especially
thank my friends Phil Moseley, Lester Terry, Norma Hatfield, Gordon
Neff, John Woodard, and Sandy Fraga whose support of the Guthrie trip
was so critical to breaking the barrier just north of the Oklahoma City
Santa Fe depot. They won't receive credit for our victory, but will
always be remembered fondly for their contribution to the Guthrie
project. I would also like to thank the National Association of Railroad Passengers www.narprail.org for their help in making this happen. I watched as they worked some real magic. I have always been a critic of NARP, but their recent dedication and attention to this event has restored my belief in their organization. They are showing real change.
FOLKS... NEXT STOP... PERRY!!!!
Those who have access to ARROW need only look to the first ticket
purchased and think about what has happened over the past four years.
