Looking at the Amtrak site for the date that I am going it is totally SOLD OUT for the time that I am going.

Though I made my reservation months ago it gives me comfort that I did not wait until the last minute.

What should I expect since my train leaves at 3:05pm and most of my travel will be at night.

Has anyone taken the Silver Meteor down to Orlando from Washington?

Yes, trains around Christmas as well as Thanksgving often sell out.

Now with regard to your train, the Silver Star departs DC at 3:05. The Silver Meteor departs at 7:30 PM.

So on the Star you should be able to catch some of the Virginia scenery before dark. I'm not sure if you'll make it to the quent town where you run down the middle of the street before dark. However, it might even be nicer after dark with all the Christmas lights turned on. Most likely you'll get to see many wonderful light displays during the entire trip at night.

I've never started in DC, but I've taken the Silver Star several times to Florida. :)
