Amtrak Missouri Service Schedules Change August 8 to Reflect Track Work Progress

Morning Eastbound Service from Kansas City to St. Louis Restored; 50% Discount on Companion Fares Available through Mid-December

CHICAGO – Amtrak is adjusting train schedules between Kansas City and St. Louis, effective August 8, 2007, following the completion of a majority of a summer track work project by the line's owner, Union Pacific Railroad (UP).

During the construction period, UP installed new rail, ties, ballast and surfaces at road crossings. There will also be some track work occurring through late 2007, but it is not expected to substantially affect train operations.

New schedules for the Missouri Mule Service (Trains 311 & 316) and Ann Rutledge (Trains 314 & 313) are below, showing the two daily round-trips on the route.

"With this change, Kansas City and points east will again have a morning departure of Train 314 that allows passengers to travel across the state and return that night," said Rod Massman, Railroad Administrator at the Missouri Department of Transportation. "Also, Show-Me State passengers will again be able to connect to and from Illinois by changing trains in St. Louis, starting Aug. 8."

"We appreciate the cooperation of UP with the completion of its major work for this year," said Don Saunders, General Superintendent, Amtrak Central Division. "With our partners at MoDOT, we will work closely with UP to operate the trains on the new schedules."

"Weather conditions and the subsequent flooding that impacted this corridor have been particularly challenging in May and July. However, we certainly appreciate the understanding and the cooperation of Amtrak and MoDOT during the track maintenance program work that required the schedule change." said Tom Mulligan, Director of Passenger Operations, Union Pacific.

Passengers who purchase tickets through December 10 can save 50-percent on the cost of a second ticket for the same itinerary on these trains within Missouri. Three-day advance booking is required and some restrictions also apply, including holiday black-out dates. Use fare code V539 when purchasing tickets to qualify for the discount.
