Yes it will. First Class provides wider roomier seats than does business class. In coach or business class seats are arranged 2 on each side of the aisle for a total of four across. They are also packed a bit tighter together, so there is less leg room.

In first class, the seating is 2 & 1 for a total of 3 seats across. So you can see that this provides extra space for wider seats. Plus there is more leg room.

Keep in mind though that on any Northeast Corridor train it's festival seating, so there's no guarantee that you'll get so many seats together.

Well boading in Washington, they'll have a pretty good chance at grabbing seats together. That would be especially true if they ride in first class, where they actually reserve 4 seater tables for families and group and enforce it as much as possible.
