40K points for FNBO Preferred Mastercard

I ended up getting approved and getting the card. I don't know why FNBO was so fussy as I am already a cardholder. Anyway, all's well that ends well.

40K points for FNBO Preferred Mastercard

They did that to me too, as I am applying for a second card just for the 40,000 points. They asked for my original Social Security card, which ages ago got washed through the washing machine, and, besides, had my name spelled wrong on it. Hope they accept that instead.

    Seattle, WA

I visit Seattle once or twice a year, since it's in close proximity, relatively speaking (I live in Eastern Washington) and always enjoy it. Lowell's is my go-to for breakfast; I love their Dungeness crab omelets. I usually take the longer ferry trip, to Bremerton; it's an interesting place to...

All Aboard the North Coast Hiawatha (NCH)

There is a grassroots movement to get a stop at Ritzville, halfway between Spokane and Pasco. It's probably a long shot at best but you don't know if you don't try. There's already a station building there that is being used as a museum.

All Aboard the North Coast Hiawatha (NCH)

I'd go for that. Spokane isn't exactly that convenient for me. Cheney would be, and I'd bet they wouldn't charge an arm and two legs for parking like Spokane does, as the parking lot at Spokane is city owned and operated.

    Empire Builder discussion 2023 Q4 - 2024

I've always thought the boxed dinner out of Portland was very good. Granted, my main point of comparison is my own cooking 😆 but I've always liked them. Better than the flex dining, which I don't think was all that horrific.

How much of the Amtrak map has one covered?

And the Wolverine, Heartland Flyer, and Vermonter as well. I guess it's a nice problem to have if you can't remember all the trains you've ridden on.🙂

How much of the Amtrak map has one covered?

All of the current long distance trains except the Silver Star and the Autotrain; I've ridden a few shorter routes including the Downeaster, Lincoln Service, Pacific Surfliner, Northeast Corridor, and the Cascades.

Glacier National Park by the Empire Builder

There has been one of those "studies," the kind that lead to nothing 🙂 about that very proposal. I hope it leads to something positive but I'm not holding my breath. Blue doesn't look good on me.😀

Just another newbie, looking for great sight-seeing opportunities

Change of plans. I will be joining you. I was going to go to Portland out of Spokane, then up to Seattle. However, it's beginning to look like it will be a tight connection in Portland given how late the train is now. So I canceled the Spokane-Portland and Portland-Seattle portions of the trip...

    United, American, Delta, and Southwest

I don't fly often any more (just once in the past 5 years) but Southwest was my go-to airline. I have flown some on Alaska Airlines, too, as it has many flights between Spokane and Seattle, so if I have needed to make that connection via air, it's convenient. It's also due to my blatant...

    Empire Builder #8 (23) Derailment

This one was a couple of miles west of Havre; the freight train derailment was about 7 miles east of Havre.

    Empire Builder #8 (23) Derailment

The train has arrived in Havre, so on the grand scheme of things, pretty minor overall.

Just another newbie, looking for great sight-seeing opportunities

The train splits in Spokane, with part going to Seattle and part going to Portland. I'm going on the Portland half so won't be joining you this time around.

Glacier National Park by the Empire Builder

I live an hour from Spokane and have always said the drive to and from the Spokane Amtrak station is the worst part of the trip. At those hours, one has to be on the constant look out for deer, moose, and other assorted crawling nocturnal creatures. Early Tuesday I get to make that trip again as...

    Dearborn MI station

I went to Greenfield Village and stayed at that Comfort Inn in 2018. I really enjoyed it. I was there for one day and didn't get to half of it. Michigan was the end of a long-time dream I had, that of visiting all 50 states. Michigan was the 50th. I stayed at that Comfort Inn and had no...

Just another newbie, looking for great sight-seeing opportunities

Enjoy your trip. I'm going to be getting on that same Empire Builder in Spokane, where the Seattle and Portland sections split. It is scheduled to depart at 3:54 AM.

    Amtrak Cascades Service discussion

I rode the Cascades from Seattle to Portland Wednesday. It was my first time on the Cascades since 2017, and my first time on a Horizon car in business class and I loved the experience. My past experience in business class on the Talgos was that as a single traveler, I was always assigned a seat...
