I have not booked a train trip in almost a year but was shocked to see the price of today's coach/sleeper tickets....was there a huge rate increase that I missed out on? I just looked at a sleeper between EUG and CHI for this November and it was over $500. It does not appear that there are...

Does anyone know the details of a recent increase in the price of a NARP? It seems to have gone up over $200. Is that possible in this day and age of trying to increase ridership or is that not a problem anymore?

I am taking a round trip from Eugene, Or to Chicago on the EB next month with sleeper reservations. It's my first Amtrak long distance trip and I'm looking for some tips on how to make the trip more enjoyable. Love to hear from some EB vets. Thanks.

What kind of scanner do you have and how is the reception in a sleeper? DO you have to keep it by the window. Same questions for the GPS unit. What brand/model do you have? Thanks for the report

I am taking the EB from Eugene to Chicago and am looking for a reasonable hotel within walking distance of Union Station. Does such an animal exist? Also, any recent experiences on the EB as far as sleeper cars go? Thanks.
