My friend who works in the yard says it’s impossible for them to use wrong diesel as they only have one kind. And Jis, they couldn’t put it in the other tank because the tanks use different size nozzles.
Sounds like the crew were telling you nonsense.
Yes, you can ask the conductor to call ahead. Just make sure it’s the one who will be your conductor when you arrive at your destination. (Conductors do not work end-to-end on LD trains)
If the lead engine “died” then they would need to swap positions. And they would have to find a location to do that. Then there’s the connections to each other to deal with.
@IndyLions, remind me never to travel with you. 😂
I don’t remember them stopping the practice. Just that, I believe, the cars could only be put on and taken off at endpoints.
Lots of PVs have been on Amtrak trains the past few years.
It swapped numbers with 134. I don’t know why, just that they swapped.
Perhaps because it seems like the number of the trains on the NEC increase as the day progresses, so 134 should run before 176 which it now does.
Because long distance trains travel a longer distance and therefore have a lot more opportunities to be delayed. ;)
As George mentioned single track areas - which there a lot of for LD trains - have delays because trains have to go into sidings and many of those sidings are not long enough for...
It’s not currently push-pull. It’s double ended with the lead motor powering the train. Though both motors have their pans up.
When the HHP-C’s are ready then those trains will be push-pull.
