Bio-diesel would not be cost effective, since Amtrak does not maintain its own fuel supply, most trains get fueled at outlying points or enroute by regular home heating contractors. A diesel set up for Bio-diesel needs to run that stuff on a continous basis or no benefits would be seen.

Well maytbe car has a defect and can not be part of passenger consist. A defect does not mean running gear, but interior or HEP. so how do you send a car like that to shop. right on rear end of a train.
