    Auto Train extension?

Yeah, we're going to need you to show your work on that one.

Fare Buckets - and when do they increase/decrease?

Not particularly. Fares will move when people reserve/cancel or whenever they go in and reallocate. Can be any day.

Long Distance Trains Carrying Intra-NEC Passengers

Good catch - was thinking "same date" forgetting that I had to pull data on 98 originating Saturday to get Sunday AM performance. Sunday isn't appreciably different (a bit better, still not as good as 98):

Long Distance Trains Carrying Intra-NEC Passengers

It covers every Sunday, which is the day in question, in Philly, which is north of Washington. Obviously the early times turn into on time when the train is forced to wait. I’d book it with no more concern than I would a regional. Heck, look at 156: 15 times more than 30 minutes late as...

Long Distance Trains Carrying Intra-NEC Passengers

The facts don't support that assertion. Here's what 98 looks like in Philly this year and last:

    Fares that don't make sense

Tell me you don't understand how Amtrak pricing works without telling me you don't understand how Amtrak pricing works. Fares charged are based on what people are willing to pay and how many people have paid, and aren't tied directly to what it costs to provide that service.

Long Distance (LD) fleet replacement discussion (2022 - 2024Q1)

Concur. Take the best ones from the entire fleet, strip the remaining ones for spare parts, and the AT can remain SL-equipped for quite some time.

    What should Amtrak change?

In a day and age where nearly everyone carries a portable screen on them, waste of time and money.

    Amtrak long distance fares 2021-2023

Is this from the Authorization Bill? The bit about competitive fares is better, but if they're selling at the current fare levels, I'm on board with getting what the market will bear.

    Amtrak long distance fares 2021-2023

Amtrak's mission is to be operated as a business, the protestations of RPA not withstanding. If we want them to have a different mission, it's up to us to make that happen via legislation and funding. Until that happens, expect more of the same. Put yourself in Amtrak's shoes - why put out...

    What's this car

More specifically, that's 10001 - generally used by Amtrak bigwigs for travel. More info here.

Business class on NER 66, 67

There’s a name I’ve not heard in a while. Stick around a while or we will ineffectually complain on the internet. 🤣

Runway Incursion and near miss at JFK

I’m all for that, but suspect this isn’t going to be a thing. Sitting at that intersection, they were told what runway to cross and what taxiway to do it on. If a left on kilo were possible, and that’s what they did, I would agree. But kilo ends there, so it was impossible to do anything but...

Runway Incursion and near miss at JFK

They were given two instructions, first to hold short of kilo, then to cross 31L on kilo. Seems pretty unambiguous.

    Bedroom for 1?

Adding to the chorus of "yes".

Rail for Less: a fare checking site

Selecting the first departure of the day is a key limitation that should get some love. I guess you could check CHI-BAL if you want an idea of Cardinal fares if you'd rather do that than the Cap.

Rail for Less: a fare checking site

So it appears to be work, but I'm not sure of the utility. Here's what I get: Granted, the ongoing track work make NOL-WAS perhaps not the nest test case... But, I wish one could click on those details and get more information. Going from memory/basic Amtrak knowledge, I'll assume that the...

Rail for Less: a fare checking site

Same here. Looks promising. Station code don't work either, despite the prompt that they will.

    Empire Builder discussion

That misses the fundamental point of an inventory. What happens when Aramark comes back and says "You only left behind one case of burger patties" when in fact there were 5 left over?

    Washington Metro Update

If only there were a way to find out what it's like to get from the metro station to the terminal.
