I usally have my door and curtains shut when I am in the room, and I leave it this way when I leave the room--I do leave many toys in my room, and have not had a problem yet in quite a few LD trains.

Thats the one I was going to suggest:) Im prob going to do this and not even spend the night, jsut take the few hours Id have and eat a good lunch or do some walking. My hope is that the scenery would be worth all while getting some rail points.

I actually love the lower rooomettes, they are so much more private, and the shower is right there, as well as the trains Ive been on the lower bathrooms are roomy enough for me to wash my face, etc.. I tend to sleep later, so the traffic upstairs of people going to breakfast in the morning...

I've had to show my AAA card once, on the train--the Texas Eagle. I would never leave home without any card that gets me a possible discount, or, pays for road service since I am usually driving at some point in my trips, and not all my relatives have emergency road service.

There is a lot of space in a roomette if you are traveling alone. I don't think that the bathrooms are that small, and on the lower level, sometimes there are a variety of size. All are bigger and nicer than a porta potty :) I have a post titled "Roomette here I come" under travelogues forum...

I found the superliner roomette to be quite roomy, I have only traveled by myself though. I'm 5' 7, 140 pds. I actually usually leave the seats down in night time configuration the whole time.
