How can one find out more details about a train when it is stopped and described as "service disruption"? I sometimes track the location of various trains on the Amtrak/VIA Real Time map. The Sunset Limited (Train 1 and Train 2) happens to be my favorite. These last two days have shown trains 1 and 2 starting, but then disappearing from the location map. The only indication as to what happened to them is the ominous "service disruption." Did they derail? Was there a flood? Did the passengers have to bus? If there's a physical problem with that route they should let us know before buying tickets.

Sometimes Amtrak makes announcements. Sometimes a news outlet publishes a story. It all depends. It's probably best to just ask here on this forum. Somebody can usually find the answer and present it here.

Also, you can check https://asm.transitdocs.com/ which maps the trains along with their speed and usually provides better info than the Amtrak map. Train Orders is also a very good source of info. The images and vids are behind a pay wall but the postings are open to all.

1/2 turns at SAS, 19/20 at ATL, 58/59 at Memphis, because of Hurricane Nate. Correct me if I am wrong.
Wrong on two. 19/20 BHM, 58/59 Jackson. (corrected)
I will have to bet that 19/20 turns at ATL, as much of the state of AL is within the trajectory, Cardinal 50/51, Pennsylvanian, Keystone, NEC, and the Vermonter may be affected as well, as Nate's trajectory takes thru AL, TN, KY, OH, WV, VA, PA, MD, NJ, NY, CT, MA, and VT. You would lose that bet. 19(6) turned at BHM. Also: https://www.amtrak.com/alert/amtrak-new-orleans-service-disrupted-hurricane-nate.html

Also wrong on impacts further up the line. He's going to be nothing more than a breezy rain by the time he gets up towards all the other trains you mention:

Looks like 19(7) is going all the way to NOL.

The status inquiry on the website shows otherwise.

Unless something dramatic has occurred in the last 45 minutes, 19(7) is terminating in BHM. The engines will run around the train and operate as 20(9). 19(8) will operate to NOL and turn for 20(10).

All I tell you is that 19(7) is not showing Service Disruption south of BHM and is showing arrival and departure times on the Status inquiry and the app.

And you do know the website & app are not exactly reliable today, right? :p
