I did some math today for cabin on the Canadian and coach on the corridor and it agrees with this. Those numbers must be some of the, if not the, highest point values of any frequency program out there.
The Canadian can indeed be very reasonable when making use of the big sales and off season. I'd be curious to see how the rewards program for Amtrak and VIA play into this. What value would you assign to the points and other perks you might get for each of these trips?
This is from January 2024, so not too long ago:
The food was a step down from The Canadian, but it was not bad. Certainly far better done Than Amtrak on the Eastern trains.
I have kinda forgotten now, but I think the Breakfast poutine was rather good 😋
That probably explains why there was no food stored in my Jonquière bound coach from Montreal to Hervey-Jonction. The VIA attendant mentioned he had to go to the Senneterre car to get items. At Hervey-Jonction he set up a coffee urn and I assume brought a cart of food over (but I did not...
fdaley - How was traffic? I had originally considered driving up that way from NJ but figured the traffic might be a problem. I ended up going to Montreal and am actually sitting at the border right now on the Adirondack coming home. It was a phenomenal show in Montreal… glad I did it.
The train is just a baggage car and one coach car with a small area at one end for the service items. There is no area with tables, so just eat at your seat.
They had fairly good coffee, so that’s important. I had a bagel and cream cheese, but it was pretty sorry compared to the delicious ones on offer in Montreal. I’ll post a photo of the menu, but I am taking the bus as I write this to Quebec City (so can’t comment on the return journey) and the...
I happened to see the VIA crew at the Delta Hotel Saguenay this morning. I’ll bet VIA’s bill from the Delta is more than they collected in ticket revenue yesterday 😲
I took the Jonquière train today as an add on to my trip to Montreal to see the eclipse (was spectacular in Montreal). I was pleasantly surprised. Very scenic trip through the mountains. Mid April is likely low season as there was only a 1/2 dozen other passengers on the train. Only 3 of us...
Saw it today from Montreal. Had planned to take the Adirondack up here, but was sold out by the time I pull the trigger (only Friday). But I will take the Adirondack home after a little add on excursion to Jonquière on VIA Wednesday.
