I am following along as I'll be in a BR on the Zephyr soon as well. I just checked #6 on the Ottumwa rail cam from this morning. The odd thing was that both sleepers had the accessible BR to the back, but one had the upper half block window and one did not. Go figure?? They can't change the...
3 Zephyr questions for those in the know...
1. Can anyone tell me if the Zephyr has the sleepers up front or in back?
2. Is there a 530/630 car or just 31's & 32's?
3. Also, best railcam(s) to get a good view of the Zephyr? Have a trip coming up in June and it's about time to start the...
My friend and I will be meeting in OSC to board the Zephyr in late June. We'll leave our cars in the lot & return 6 days later. Do you suggest letting anyone other than the caretaker know?
Also, any suggestions on where to grab dinner in OSC? Thanks so much for any input!
I've been looking at SAC & although there are great SF ideas in these posts, I love the options in SAC. Do you miss any compelling views shortening the trip?
The ferry option is compelling & I do like low stress departure mornings. Thanks so much!
Thanks to everyone for the wonderful ideas...
We haven't planned ground transportation yet. Are you saying that it would be easier to get to Sausalito without a car if we were to stay in SF rather than Emeryville? Thank you so much for your input. I'll look into Sausalito. Hope your family event is a lovely time.
Hello all! My best friend and I doing a roundtrip from OSC to EMY in late June. The train trip itself is the vacation destination, but to avoid the stress of what happens if the train runs too late to catch the return the next morning, we're going to spend 2 nights (one full day) in the EMY...
I've made two multi-day round trips this year traveling alone. Both with multiple LD trains involved, so quite a few meals. If I'm in a chipper mood, I've gone to the diner ready for whatever seating I'm given. A couple times I was in a quieter mood, and went to the diner kind of hoping to be...
The train I rode weekly as a grade schooler was the Santa Fe (AT& SF) Texas Chief . My first trip and the beginning of my love of train travel was in 1969.
Thanks for the heads up. I did not receive an email from guest rewards but was able to register for it using this link:

I will be traveling Coast Starlight 11 from SEA to LAX the first week of October. They have me in car 1131, but in room 19. Just to confirm what I suspected...does this mean it is in a transdorm even though it's not car 1140 and also that my roomette will be on the side without ocean views?
I love what they show around Tulsa on the proposed map. It would allow for much easier access to all east/west routes as well as for visiting friends and family in Arkansas and Missouri.
I don't remember hearing about it back then, but I was a young adult & certainly could have missed it. It's sure dissappointing from my view because I've always hoped to see easily accessible passenger rail back in Oklahoma. I spent a couple yrs in St Louis as a kid as well, so would have...
The train I rode was the Texas Chief, which I think became the Lonestar after Santa Fe became Amtrak. Thanks for sharing the proposed routes. I had only seen one showing the OKC-NEW route, nothing going to Tulsa or any of the offshoots shown above. They have talked about OKC-NEW for a long...
