I just moved to Cincinnati, OH, after spending 5 years in Bloomington, IN. I've also lived in Maryland (near DC), North Carolina (both the mountains & the Research Triangle), and California (a beach city near Los Angeles). I teach computer science at a small liberal arts university. My husband (also a professor) and I travel all over the USA (and some of Canada) when school's not in session. We only have 7 more states to get before seeing all 50, with plenty of things left to explore. (We collect a variety of things like state capitols, baseball stadiums, and breweries.) We are also starting to travel outside of the continent soon (husband's never left - I've been to Europe and the Caribbean several times). I could probably travel all the time and never tire of it, but he likes to be a little more stationary Let me know your favorite places to see so I can add them to my bucket list.

In terms of trains, I have a small obsession with all modes of transportation, particularly trains, planes, and boats. My bucket list has long included long distance train trips. In college, I was fortunate to do the long distance sleeper ride between Moscow and St Petersburg in Russia, which was one of the highlights of my trip (of many, many amazing things) even though we mostly slept through the ride. When we lived in MD, I took a commuter Amtrak train most days into DC (to catch a metro train), and also did an Acela ride to NYC. I also go out of my way to take train rides near where I live or travel, my favorite being the Cumbres & Toltec.

This year, in October, I am checking off a bucket list item in doing the entire California Zephyr route from Chicago to San Francisco. I hope to ride some of the other long distance routes in the entirety as well.

For fun aside from traveling, I like to watch and play sports, take photos, write about my travels, spend time with friends, and generally try out new things. I also spend a lot of time cooking and running, but I'm not sure those count as fun for me.
