Why do you travel by train?

Purely for the joy of train travel! In April I will take the LSL from NYC to Chicago and the EB to Seattle, then fly home the next day. Not to go to Seattle, but to ride the EB and LSL. And. to make ND the 48th state I have visited, completing the quest that began many years ago when there were...

What is the best time of year to do the EB

I'm hoping it's April! Still some snow, longer days, and hopefully, no flooding that results in a bus ride.

    EB: Seattle or Portland

I'm booked on the EB to Seattle in April, but could go to Portland instead if Amtrak will let me switch, Should I? Which is the better trip? Which is more scenic? Should I go where the lounge goes or where the diner goes, or does it matter?

    Which roomette?

I'm booked on the EB in April, and have booked a roomette. My reservations doesn't tell me where it is. How do I find out? Can I choose? And, if I can choose, which side do I want to be on? Thanks!

    EB, April 10

I Googled Red River flooding and see the risk is pretty high further north, e.g. Devil's Lake. Not so much south, e.g. Fargo. www.weather.gov/media/fgf/news/RRN_DVL_Feb2017Outlook.pdf What do they do when there is a flood? Can they re-route the train, or do they bus you? I'd be doing this for...

    EB, April 10

Anyone have any idea of the likelihood of delays on the EB April 10-12? Potential for Red River flooding? Thanks!

    Empire Builder

Thanks, JayPea. Looks like eastbound is the way to go. I'll probably go via Seattle - more likely to tie it in with some business there. I've driven the Columbia Gorge, so I'd rather see the more northerly Cascades. Glacier is probably most important to me, since I've heard it is magnificent...

    Empire Builder

Hi, I've promised myself that this is the year I will take a trip on the Empire Builder. I'd love to go in winter, when there will be snow, but also want to go when the days are longer, so I'm thinking mid-April. Is there a better time? Which way to go? It seems like either way, an even with...
