    Kingman Az sleeper loading location at station when going east

    The spotting every car needing to be worked is an anomaly in Kingman. The railroad is pretty good about putting the trains on the #1 Main. If your trip is a normal stop, you'll board the sleepers on the east end for an eastward journey.

    What is this third engine?

    While a diesel can be towed as mentioned above, EMD's must be online to transmit alarms and receive the MU shutdown from another unit. If an EMD is deadhead and not online, it must be occupied by someone in the cab for the journey (per Amtrak)

    La Junta T&E Base

    Remember, since La Junta is also a crew base, if need be, they can call a dogcatch to intercept 3 en route if the crew's HOS is to expire instead of holding at DDG for a crew legal off of a split.

    Southwest Chief Train #3 & #4 engine road numbers

    All P40's and P42's have ability to accept the IITS (Intermittent Inductive Train Stop). It's all a matter of terminal or en-route mechanical forces taking off the receiver and mounting it on the lead unit. All the Genesis lokes have a permanently mounted bracket for this to mount to.

    Is New Mexico's Mt. Baldy visible from the SWC?

    There's also "Santa Fe Baldy" which is visible from the train.
