    Texas Eagle discussion

Thank you! Our plan is to go to the lounge, check our bags, and we will inquire about dinner rez when we do that, then head down to Traxx for either apps and a cocktail, or early dinner, depending on what the lounge attendant says. Then head back up before 6 for the Red Cap service. We have...

    Texas Eagle discussion

I did a search, and someone on the TE out of LA last May had a similar departure time, and mentioned that dinner was offered, so fingers crossed.

    Texas Eagle discussion

Does anyone know if dinner will be available on the TE out of LA right now? It’s still on the earlier schedule this week, so leaves at 7pm instead of 10pm. And if so, is it dining car or flex? We are only onboard the one night, so only curious about the initial window leaving LA Union...

    Bid Up questions and experiences

We are taking the TE tomorrow out of LA, and our bid of $80 was accepted to upgrade from coach to a roomette. Sadly, we still have to get up and get off in the middle of the night, but looking forward to the roomette regardless. It will be my hubby’s first time on Amtrak, and in a roomette.

NB on the CS in coach report

Hey all - Yesterday (Jan 18, 2024) I took the Coast Starlight in coach, from LA Union Station to Emeryville. It was my first time boarding in Union Station — usually I board in Van Nuys, but this time I took the Metrolink from the antelope valley into Union station so my husband didn’t have to...

Amtrak Dining and Cafe Service discussion 2024 H1

Not sure how recent of a change this is, but I know since Covid, coach passengers were not able to eat in the dining car. On the CS yesterday, coach passengers were able to make dining car reservations and several in my car did so. I had brought my food, so didn’t make a reservation myself...

    Sunset Limited/Texas Eagle discussion

I feel like I have a persistent black cloud over my Amtrak travel lately. We had to cancel our CS trip to Northern California over Christmas due to the MetroLink closure, and now we have to cancel our San Antonio trip —last night our friends, who had invited us to stay with them at their...

    Sunset Limited/Texas Eagle discussion

San Antonio is our destination, so we definitely have to get off at whatever time we end up arriving. Our condo is very close to the station, but 3 am is a bit more off time wise, to get transportation from the station. On a good note, we will now get dinner included as we head out of LA, vs...

    Sunset Limited/Texas Eagle discussion

woke up to an email changing our TE 422 departure from LAX by 3 hours (2/14). We now leave at 7pm and arrive in SAS at 3am 😩 I thought arriving at almost 5am was too early, but 3am really sucks

    Winter 2023-24 Roomette Companion Sale

We currently have a roomette booked for February on the TE — the sale price saves us about $100. what Is the procedure — do I have to call to get a partial refund?

Metrolink (Los Angeles) outage in December 2023

We ended up rolling our fare into the trip we are doing next September, and will drive for our Christmas trip, and skip the whole Metrolink track closure issue. Third person I spoke to at Amtrak was great — super helpful and friendly, but also completely unaware of the closure over the holiday...

Metrolink (Los Angeles) outage in December 2023

So just called, twice, and am being told there is nothing happening at LA Union station during that time period and the trains will be running as usual 🙄.

Metrolink (Los Angeles) outage in December 2023

Yeah, it’s a hassle and a half sometimes. Now that my husband is semi-retired and the kids are on their own, we can take advantage of the Metrolink and easy access to Union Station to travel a bit. This was to be our first trip utilizing the access (vs my DH dropping me at the Van Nuys station...
