Imagine the terror of being that SUV driver as you're trying to rock the vehicle back and forth to get off the tracks as the train approaches. Was anyone hurt? It sounds like a situation where everyone would have had a chance to get clear first.

So with my planned trip this summer (either Starlight from Vancouver-LA or CZ from Chicago-Sacramento) I am planning to obviously take a few pictures along the way! I have professional-grade SLR equipment, but I am wondering about the photo opportunities along the way. Do photos from the train...

That is over the top! Something to consider though! I'm amazed at how cheap rail travel is (not counting time lost from work and making money, I suppose!) per day once you include the meals that are included when you have a sleeper.
