Many ranchers in town still come into town that way. I haven't ridden the TE since 1990 and I was a child. My nearest station is Alpine and it does make sense to take the TE/Sunset to go to LA, but anything east? Forget about it. Maybe to St. Louis, but the routing in Texas is terrible.

I was reading how some countries in Eastern European countries might still have these. I think I recall using one in Texas in the late eighties on some Heritage equipment. Do any of yall recall their use on Amtrak and maybe some funny stories around them?

Just stayed at the old one converted to a hotel in Las Vegas, NM. Worth a stay if anyone is in the area.
