Construction of Phase II is very actively going on. I see it every day. Of course I also saw construction of Phase I take place every day for a LOT of days ... way more than I think I should have. These things take a ridiculously long time.
So not only did we get in at night, but we got in over five hours late, so it was 3:15 AM!!!! There was one red cap on duty and he was great. He was first helping another group, so I requested his assistance and he said to stay where we were on the platform and he would come back for us. Sure...
Having boarded a train at CHI last week after waiting in the Metropolitan Lounge, here are my thoughts:
1. The "directions" provided over the PA in the ML for how to get to the train sounded pretty complicated and VAGUE, and I was not able to digest them while getting up and gathering my party...
Oh, so are you saying that from the Lounge, you don't need to first go through the general boarding area in order to get to the platform?
Also, if we request a Red Cap from the lounge (we will have a lot of luggage), we'd also possibly have an edge? Or no?
What if you want to get choice seats in business class on the outbound Cardinal? And you're a party of 6 to 8 who all want to sit together? You should leave the lounge early to get ahead in the queue at the gate?
The Cardinal is scheduled to arrive at NY Penn Station at 9:58 PM at night. Does anyone know if the Red Caps are usually still around that late at night to help arriving passengers get their luggage to street level? What about if the train is late? Thanks.
I have no idea what maintenance they are doing now on the cars, or if they are even really doing any maintenance on them. But it does seem at least a little bit fishy that not only are they taking all four of the cars out of service all at once for TWO whole months, they ALSO are not replacing...
I have an AGR trip booked with a connection from the California Zephyr to the Coast Starlight at Emeryville. Or are you only talking about from the CS to the CZ?
