In an Interview last night on the Rachel Maddow Show on MSNBC, Representative DeFazio of the 4th District of Oregon spoke about cuts being made in the upcoming Infrastructure package. There have been several areas that have taken cuts in the package to create more tax cuts. Programs that would take a hit include Aviation, U.S Army Corps of Engineers, Water Infrastructure, Water Treatment Facilities, Sewer Lines, and of course Amtrak. I am personally outraged by this. I have already e-mailed my Rep, and called for him to join with Representative DeFazio to fight this. I would urge all of you to do the same.

Guess what? I don't have a representative to write to at this time. Yep, she's Kirsten Gillibrant and she will be sworn in to Hilliary's vacated Senate position in about a half an hour from this posting. Most others can write to their reps though and this link may be useful if you don't know who your rep is and will provide links to their websites.

Another thought! If someone knowledgable about Amtrak in relationship to their budgets could write a concise, tactful sample letter to a representative that voices our concerns and post it here so that we could use in communicating to our reps, it would help facilitate more action on the part of the Amtrak fans that frequent AU. I've seen unions do this in their political action campaigns to increase their voice. Anybody up to it?
