92 (Silver Star to New York) lost one of its P42s somewhere east of Raleigh, between Raleigh and Selma.

80 (Carolinian to New York) was stuck behind 92. 90 (Palmetto to New York) which does not run through Raleigh on the S-Line, was fine and at Selma on the A Line was ahead of both. Then near Fredericksburg 90 got stuck in a police embargo of the track it was on while 80 passed it by on the adjacent track. It was released a few minutes after 80 went by and it continued right behind 80 all the way to Washington. So then the order was 80, 90, 92. Apparently 80 overtook 92 somewhere before joining the A Line, since it was ahead of 92 on the A Line.

92 arrived in WAS about 12 or so mins after 90, which arrived after 80. I was on 90. 92 came in with a single P42 having shed the other one somewhere around Raleigh. It also had an extra deadhead Amfleet II tucked in between the Baggage car and the Engine. That continued on to NY.

All three got AEM-7s 931, 932 and 908 in the order in which they arrived into WAS and also departed from WAS.

There was no effect on southbound service apparently, though for unknown reasons 79 was running quite a bit behind schedule on the A Line, far removed from any of the mess mentioned above.

80 made it into New York at 12:06, 3hrs 17mins late.

90 made it into New York at 12:15, 28mins late.

92 made it into New York at 12:37, 5hrs 5mins late.

90 would probably have made it on time or ahead of schedule if the Police were not busy running around on tracks without telling the CSX dispatcher, and causing a kerfuffle.

Oh and when we arrived in Selma, the dispatcher had apparently lined up everything for 80 and gone out for coffee or something. :p We (90) came to a halt outside the station and they had to get hold of the dispatcher to revoke the setup for 80 (5 min clock timeout) then set things up for 90, causing 90 to arrive late into Selma instead of on time.

Fortunately I had bailed in Newark where I caught the 12:14 NJT NY departure NEC service to get to my car at Metropark. Got home a little after 1:30am.

Engine on 92 had air problems.

It's common for 92 and 80 to "fleet" north of RGH because 92 often runs an hour late arriving RGH. It's less common for all three of them to fleet, but it happens. Makes life easier for the CSX dispatchers, particularly SSM-PTB which has a lot of single track running.

It was very easy on the dispatchers yesterday since there was exactly one opposing freight and of course a few opposing Amtraks which we crossed including 89 (between Selma and Wilson), 79 (between Petersburg and Richmond), 91 (Richmond), 85 (between Fredericksburg and Alexandria) and 97 (between Franconia and Alexandria).

We actually crossed 97 around Van Dorn and then crossed over at AF to use the same platform that 97 had used at Alexandria.
