I think it’s more a contractual thing than it is a “you’re doing such a great job here’s an award” thing. The word bonus implies exceptional performance but a better term for it would probably be conditional compensation. But in the contract it essentially says if you and the company meet this benchmark you get the full possibly amount you’re entitled to. Otherwise you make this base amount.The bottom line here is that I have little problem with the executives Amtrak base salaries while wishing that even 50% of their base compensation would be wonderful for myself. . I do see a problem with bonuses that are typically given as achievement rewards. Where are the achievements for which these bonuses were given?
