Long way from home - I just saw Northern Sky in Milwaukee. I think that is the home base.

Nice pictures!!!

Hi Terry -

Nice pictures. I would assume there is no connection between the bi-level Superliner car and the dome cars. Did you happen to notice if there was any passenger connectors between the two dome cars - or would it be fare to say they were isolated from each other?

Thanks and please keep the pictures coming!

With the trans/dorm clearly connected to the baggage car at the front of the train, I would tend to think that the dome's had no connection to the rest of the train. The odds of Amtrak adding a second trans/dorm, the only car in Amtrak's fleet that is capable of mating a single level car on one end and a bi-level car on the other end, are extremely high. Amtrak doesn't have that many trans/dorms to go around, so most are needed for the crew in daily service.

Hi Deimos, I didn't notice if the dome cars were connected.

So, what unusual happened on that day? Was it the existence of private cars?
rmadisonwi, What was unusual was that Amtrak did not make it's stop at Harpers Ferry. It stops here twice a day every day but while the parking lot is being redone there is no passenger service. That includes the 4 or 5 MARC commuter trains that stop everyday Monday thru Friday. So it was a very unusual sight to see.

Thanks Terry and thanks Alan....

I was just curious about how, if at all, the private cars may have been connected - that is connected for passengers to walk between the cars :)

As Alan mentioned - I wouldn't expect a passenger connection with the Superliner car.

Well had the domes been put up front or had Amtrak put the trans/dorm as the last Superliner car, then the domes would have had access to the rest ot the train. :)

Any plans for the tower to be functional, or just for show? Would be a good spot for train watching on cold days. Also, will the station be the red color shown, or repainted into B&O colors?

No the tower will not be functional and it will not be open to the public.

I asked one of the workers about the paint and he thought the red with some brown trim was it. I need to ask the project forman to be sure. Work on the station will be complete late October.

The sad thing about this refurb is that at the other end of the station which can't be seen in the photos and the passinger loading area (seen in the first photo) on the opposite side of the tracks from the station are owned by Amtrak and are not going to be refrubed. The two buildings are connected by an underground passinger walkway. They are literally falling down and take away from the very nice Park service refrub.
