Earlier one of the San Joaquin trains broke down, and about 200 pax had to be bussed to stockton to catch a train holding for them, then another train had a fatal trespasser incident in Davis about a half an hour ago.

Apparently this train had a few problems during its trip, had to have a passenger removed in Oakland by ambulance, had a " hard braking incident" as described by a passenger, due to kids on the track in fairfield, then this incident with a woman in Davis. It was a CC train.

I was wondering why things were not looking too happy today... at least in the first case they were able to be bussed from train 716 to 704. Unfortunate for that Capitol Corridor train though. It seemed to be doomed from the get-go. One delay seemed to cascade into the future events that followed. Unfortunate for all involved in all these incidents today.

The news in Sacramento has been pretty vague about the incident. Passengers on the train describe a loud thump, followed by emergency braking. There was a witness report that due to the wind, it was possible the person trespassed on the tracks to retrieve some papers.

Sacramento Bee newspaper is reporting that a 29-year woman from Vacaville was hit and killed by an eastbound Capitol Corridor train last night as it was pulling into the Davis station. None of the 314 passengers or crew on the train were injured.

Breaking down the problems on the San Joaquin last night:

Train 716

Cancelled after engine broke down near Antioch. Passengers bussed to SKT to transfer to 704. (Must have been interesting to watch 200 passengers board a train from the middle of a grade crossing at the Cabral station.)

Train 704

Delayed for connecting passengers from 716. Arrived at BFD 2 hours and 2 minutes late.

Train 718

According to passengers, stopped to connect to the dead 716 and tow it off the mainline. (Not sure where it was taken.) Passengers also said that at some point en route, 718 lost HEP. Not sure if that was a problem with the locomotive on 718 or a temporary loss of power due to the connection to 716. Arrived at BFD 2 hours late.

The good news: things appear to have been ironed out in Bakersfield overnight with 711/701/713 all arriving at their final destinations on time or early today.
